About OR Index
What it is
OR Index is a curated directory of Operations Research resources — solvers, courses, books, datasets, communities, blogs and more. Every entry is hand-picked and classified along three dimensions: content type, topic area, and audience level.
The goal is simple: make it fast to find the right OR resource, whether you already know exactly what you need or you are just starting to explore the field.
Curation criteria
A resource makes it into the index if it passes four questions:
- Is it specific to Operations Research? General data science, statistics or programming resources are excluded unless they have a clear OR focus.
- Is it active and maintained? Abandoned projects, dead links and unmaintained software are removed. The index reflects what is useful today.
- Does it add something unique? Near-duplicates of already-indexed resources are excluded. Each entry should cover distinct ground.
- Is it free to access, or does it have a meaningful free tier? Purely paywalled resources are excluded. Freemium or open-core tools are included if the free tier is genuinely useful.
Curation is necessarily subjective. If a resource you value is missing or something listed feels wrong, reach out.
Who is behind it
OR Index is built and maintained by Borja Menéndez, an Operations Research practitioner. The project has no affiliation with any solver vendor, publisher or academic institution. Resources are listed on merit, not sponsorship.
Privacy
OR Index measures page views and clicks on resource links to learn which resources are useful. It uses Umami, which only reports aggregated numbers. There are no cookies, no accounts and nothing is stored in your browser.
